Since 2020 Toki has helped universities develop their technology transfer capability, as well as support specific commercialisation projects
For example:
Toki Ventures advised on the strategic advantages and practicalities of establishing a new VC fund and fund manager dedicated to investing in university spin-outs. Toki helped assess the feasibility and long-term impact of such an initiative, and comprehensively and critically characterised the available deal flow for investment. With this data Toki guided the university through the decision-making process to ensure alignment with the university’s innovation goals.
Toki Ventures has repeatedly supported the commercialisation and investment strategy for specific technologies in the fields of quantum, water and the circular economy. Through in depth research and direct contact with industry experts Toki provided strategic insights to help the university understand the market potential and funding pathways for these technologies. This has directly (Salinity Solutions) and indirectly (Delta G) supported two spin-outs raise around £10M.

Toki Ventures conducted in-depth research on university academic equity policies, providing tailored recommendations to develop a policy aligned with its institutional goals. By analyzing best practices and sector trends, Toki helped the university refine its approach to academic equity, ensuring a sustainable and effective framework. This led to a new policy in 2024.
